about lolo
lolo is a Spanish tapas restaurant and bar from restaurateur Giorgio Kawas and chef Rory Sandoval of Giorgio's in the Pearl District. Located at 2940 NE Alberta, lolo focuses on “finger foods” designed to compliment Spanish cocktails and wines, including those from the regions of Rioja, Navarra, Cataluña, and Rias Baixas.
“lolo, Spanish slang for silly young thing, is a place where Northern Spain and the Pacific Northwest intersect,” said Giorgio's and lolo owner Giorgio Kawas. “Both regions are defined by nature - wild ocean beaches, fertile valleys, rugged mountains, mild climates and moody skies. As a result, the food is straightforward: incredibly simple, yet made with quality ingredients.”
Located in a historic 1920s Portland building in the Alberta Arts District, lolo combines period architectural details with contemporary casual comfort. The restaurant exudes the warmth associated with Spain - the subdued reds and earth colors characteristic of the ever changing landscapes of the Spanish Northwest. The feel is also contemporary: clean, simple materials and forms combine with warm colors and tactile surfaces. Displaying the work of neighborhood artists, lolo embraces the palpable energy of the Alberta Arts District.
